USA Hockey Pond Hockey Championships Reach 179 Registered Teams

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A total of 179 teams from 22 states have already registered for the USA Hockey Pond Hockey Championships, it was announced today by USA Hockey. The event, which will take place Feb. 12-14 in Eagle River, Wis., has increased in the number of participating teams every year since its inception in 2006, including hosting 196 teams in 2009.
"This year's event is shaping up to be yet another tremendous success," said Ashley Bevan, director of adult hockey for USA Hockey. "Our continued growth is a sign both of the success of this event and the hard work of our staff and sponsors."
In the event's first year in 2006, 40 teams participated. One year later, the number of teams doubled, and, in 2008, 120 teams made the journey to Eagle River.

NOTES: Last year's USA Hockey Pond Hockey Championships featured over 1,200 players representing 25 states, 20 rinks on Dollar Lake and 3,500 pucks. It was recently named the recipient of Sport Travel Magazine's 2009 SportsTravel Award for the best amateur single-sport event.
